My emerson tv does the same thing and I have emailed techlore with no response yet.. what's the point of asking questions if the techs don't answer? This issue started on October 4th it looks like.
To all of you, Im sorry you were not answered to in a timly matter. The problem with this unit is of course a mechanical problem in the tape carriage assy. These nylon gears break or crack and then they slip out of mechanical timming. Most of the time these parts are not available by themselfs, so the entire tape carriage assy. has to be replaced, all at once. These days however, im sorry to say, it simple does not pay to have these sets repaired. We have become a throw away society. Thats just the way the manufacturers want it to be, as the less expensive they make it, the less chance it will be repaired and the more they sell. I remember I used to repair 20 VCRs in a day. Have not done anything but clean a few in the past 18 months. A VCR combo can be purchace for about 100 bucks. A repair on one of these sets to fix this carriage problem? About 125 bucks. If you did get a hold of the parts you need and there are one of several that could be broken, you would still have to get an alighnment manual to adjust and re-time the mechanism, as this is no simple job. I dont even know all of the differant alighnment points on a mechanism without looking at a manual, unless I serviced alot of the same models. So the bottom line again, is it simply will not pay to fix this unit , by yourselfs or especially by a servicer. Good Luck to all of you.
