My friends grandson drove a tricycle into his widescreen tv. The color convergence went crazy. He reset the colors with according to the manual.....BUT THE RED COLOR WON'T STAY...It smears color red. Is there an adjustment in the set. A technician wants $300.00 just to come to the house. Thanks

So what you're saying is that the red alignment shifts after the convergence process has been completed? Are you positive that the changes are being saved after the adjustments have been made?
Yes, the colors are being saved, but the red color goes crazy.
Hmmmm... it's not looking good. Did you try unplugging the TV from the wall for a while, or hitting the TVs master reset? They're long shots, but it's worth a try before you have the tech come out.
I did unplugging the wall....where is the master reset? Are there any adjustments we can do ourselves inside. A friend had a 1000 watt bass woofer beside tv and it broke a solder joint on his red convergence color because of the vibration. The techie came out and found the broken solder joint immediately.....This tv was a sony, though.
thanks
Hank
I don't recommend poking around inside the TV unless you're a qualified servicer, or really know what you're doing. If you wish to remove the front panel and look for the obvious, that's fine, but be careful what else you do. Hitting the wrong thing in there could make your problem go from bad to worse in a hurry.
It would seem that Panasonic has no form of factory reset for the TV... not that I can find anyway. If you don't see anything obvious, your last options are to fix it, or replace it. Good luck.
Sounds like the Red gun got jared in the collision. You may be able to try to manually re-align it in the TV's service menu, but that is a pretty advanced task. Also, if it is too far out of alignment, it won't help anyway.
I've messed around so much in my TV's service menu I think I've made it worse instead of better. It was fun though!
If you do want to try this approach, a google query should result in some leads as to how to access the service menu. Again, as Matt said, this is really only meant for qualified service techs though.
Thanks guys....I am sure HE will mess with it too. They want a lot of $$ up this way in Massachusetts. I will do a search, Eric....if you find a web site with a free service menu...url it my way...thanks. Will keep you informed.
How do I get into the service menu on a panasonic Model# PT-51DX80A.
