Help! My New Canon EOS Digital Rebel Xs has an error!

It's brand new (I just got it for Christmas), and I started getting an "Err 99" message telling me to turn off the camera and re-install the battery. I've done so, at least twelve times and then I looked it up.

I got some advice off a forum telling you how to see what's wrong with your camera. I followed the directions to the "T" and the memcard, and battery where fine so I figured, 'Must be the lense' I was using a telephoto lense so I thought I needed to have it checked out but good thing I checked. I put in my other lense, the lense that came with the camera (I can't remember what it's called sorry ^^; ) and then it gave me the same error when I had no problem taking pictures without a lense and when the memcard and battery where in place.

The forum that gave me the instructions on how to diagnose it told me it's a shutter curtain problem. I can't afford to have it fixed right now. Is there any thing else I can do?
