Yellow Peril

While watching a
TV program, the screen suddenly turned yellow with faint diagonal
lines. The audio stayed OK and I could select all the channels. After
about 20 minutes, the screen returned with a normal picture and has
remained that way. Any ideas on what caused this??

First off what type of TV set

First off what type of TV set is it? Brand and or the model.  When the set turns yellow, do you see a picture in the background,  Please try to be a little more discriptive.

JVC Model AV-2657S. When the yellow suddenly appears there is no picture in the background. If
I turn the set off for a few minutes and then turn it back on, a faint
image of the picture appears which soon fades away and the screen is
entirely yellow with faint diagonal lines.

Im going to say it can be

Im going to say it can be just about any component inside this TV set, as it is over 15 years old my freind. Sorry to say, if you invest anything into this TV set, it will most likely be a waist of money, as I see this TV set getting alot more problems in the future. It is time to put this TV to rest and buy a new one. I would have to guess that a repair such as this could run you as much as 200 bucks. Imagine if you had another problem in 5 months down the road. You having to invest another 300 bucks. The cycle just goes on, and it would not be the fault of the TV repair person. My best advice on this set, is to throw this set out, and get a new one. TV's do wear out. This set has seen better days. Good luck

You're
so right and thast's exactly what I plan to do......probably a Sharp
AQUOS! Actually, I had no intension of fixing the old JVC but was quite
interested in finding why this odd phenomenon occurred. I guess it will
remain a mystery but thanks so much for your comments!
