My XBOX 360 Dashboard is in Chinese!

A TechLore "Ask the Experts" Question...

Question:

I have my XBOX 360 rigged up, and can see...Chinese! We understand you can change the language, but there is an obvious difficulty. Any suggestions? This has come about because the wireless controller was being played with prior to having the TV connected. Ooops ~ We've selected chinese (not guilty!), Is there any way we can we reset language?

Answer:

As of now, I am not familiar with any kind of factory reset to revert things like language to "out-of-the-box" settings, or at lease Microsoft has not listed any way to do it in the manual or on their user support site. So, it looks like you'll have to do it the old fashioned, "step-by-step" way.

Lucky for you, the XBOX 360 dashboard is pretty predictable, so you should be able to navigate the Chinese menu without actually knowing what any of the characters mean. The tab on the far right is called the "System" tab. The lowest option on this screen is the "initial setup". Select it to run the first time setup again, and the first user selectable option should be language. Once you get it back to English, finish the rest of the XBOX 360 setup.
