Channel Number Stuck on TV

A TechLore "Ask the Experts" Question...

Question:

I have an Emerson model #TS4354, and I don't have a remote. When the TV is on the channel stays displayed all the time and I don't know how I can remove it witout the remote(bought at thrift store). Please Help.

Answer:

Doing some checking, I discovered that Emerson does not have any resource material available to view a manual or image of the remote. Thus, I can only take an educated guess at answering your question.

Based on past experience with other TVs, there is usually a command on the remote control to cycle the permanent channel display on and off. On Sony TVs for example, the remote has a button labled "Display" to achieve this.

Since you do not have the original remote, it's doubtful that there is any button on the front of the TV to turn the channel display off. If you try a universal remote, it will unlikely have the proper codes for such an obscure command. Your only hope is to find someone with a compatible Emerson remote to disengage the display, or purchase an OEM remote from either Emerson or a third party. Doing a Yahoo search on "Emerson TS4354", I came across many sites claiming to have a replacement remote for your model in stock. The average price was $35 plus shipping. Purchasing the remote through Emerson may be more expensive, but you'll know it's a trustworthy company to do business with.
