I have an RCA F36650 that has worked fine for three years. Recently, without any configurationchange, the Audio is missing (pure silence, no static) when playing a DVD or VHS tape, but it works fine when viewing cable TV or broadcast TV via the anntena. I have validated the devices and cables are OK (I hooked them up to another TV), and I also hooked up a portable DVD player to the front panel input and had the same problem. This may have happened overnight when there was a lightning storm.
Does anyone know what is wrong, if repair is an option, and -- if so -- how difficult it would be to execute?

It sounds like your input selector IC is bad. This is a surface mounted IC and cannot be replaced without special tools. I am not certain of the model, but they may even have a board for this set. contact ptscorp, and see if they repair the input board for this model, and how much they charge.
