Minolta Dimage Z1

Problem - Can't go to Recording mode (Viewfinder display). It always goes to Recording mode (Monitor display) when the switch is set to either recording mode. The camera is 3 years old and in excellent shape. Could it be something on the menu or maybe the switch has gone bad?
