Laptop does not recognize cdrom

I have a Compaq Presario, Model 1070 with SCSI Adapter. It
now has Windows 95 loaded but has many problems. I need to
reload Windows 95, but the computer does not recognize the
cdrom drive. In the devices list it says the cdrom is in
DRIVE POSITION 2. What does this mean and how can I get the
computer to recognize the cdrom drive so I can reload Windows 95.

Hi design_engineer,

Hi design_engineer,

Based on your hardware configuration, it sounds like there's a few things you're going to have to deal with in order to get your OS reloaded.

First, is your CD-ROM drive connected to your SCSI adapter? I'd find it much more likely that your optical drive is connected via the IDE interface, and your hard drive is connected to the SCSI adapter.

To install Windows 95 off of a CD, you're going to need a boot disc in order to load a CD-ROM driver since the BIOS in that PC more than likely won't boot off of CD-ROM. Do you have a boot disc?

Finally, you'll need to make sure you have the Win95 driver for your SCSI adapter, otherwise the Win 95 installer probably won't recognize the hard drive that's attached to it. You should still be able to get drivers from the company that made the SCSI adapter.

Drive position 2 is probably referring to its position on the IDE channel (not a big deal), but it's been so long since I've worked with Windows 95. Where did you get that information?

Thanks Matt for the info. I

Thanks Matt for the info. I will see what I can do.
The info about DRIVE POSITION 2 was in the list of devices on the computer.
It said the floppy disk was drive A and the CDROM was in DRIVE POSITION 2.
I think I can find a bootable disk.

Thanks again!
