I lent a canon MV5 off my friends. When I turn it on there is no image on the screen its just black, altho it is recording sound and it plays back what was previously on the tape.
There is a red icon that is flasing that on the right hand side of the screen its looks like a "man in a boat" can anyone tell me what this icon is.

Your camera could be part of a national recall due to bad CCD sensors in the front end of this model. Go here http://www.imaging-resource.com/badcc... to read about the recall and then contact the company as soon as possible, because I heard that they were not going to honor these free repairs for much longer.
