faulty camera

I've bought a Fuji finepix S5000 second hand which is faulty. The view finder and screen are blank, even when transferred to pc, although everything else still works. I'm told that it hasn't been dropped etc. The memory card that came with it has a few old pics on, mostly just black although there are a couple of distorted images which might imply there has been some deteriation of images before they went blank. What I'd like to know what could be the cause and how much this might cost to repair? Thanks
