Samsung SCD80 miniDV camcorder

I have a Samsung SCD80 MiniDV camcorder. I have had it for a few years and have had no problems until just a few months ago. My problem is that the LCD and viewfinder appear very dark. I can't see the image. But the camera works perfectly in player mode. I can view my taped footage in perfect color and brightness. Any suggestions on what can be causing this?
