What can I do to fix my home DVD player from freezing up

Hello,
I have a Sylvania Dual DVD & VCR player MODEL DVC860D I just bought a brand new DVD movie "Casino". I got half way through the movie and it froze up. My kids said that it does this on all the other DVD's also. How can I fix this problem? Since this happens to other DVD's it would seem to me that it is the machine not the disc's. Is it getting to hot inside the player? What exactly is the problem, it seems that I have read that a lot of people are having this same problem but know one has said how to fix it. What exactly needs to be done to stop this from continuing to happen? Can someone please help me? Thank you for your time, laacea

I've done some more investigation into this problem as it seems to come up a lot. While it could be several things, the biggest reason seems to be that the DVD player is having trouble switching between the layers on the DVD. This article explains it a little more:

As far as the 'hot' issue, you should definitely make sure that there is enough ventilation for your DVD player so it doesn't get too hot. If you think it is, try moving it to a new location and see if that works. This is a long shot though.

Bottom line from what I can find is that it's probably time for a new DVD player. The costs of buying a new one vs. trying to get this one fixed doesn't make it worthwhile to take it into the shop.

The player is only a year old

The player is only a year old and it doesn't get used that much. It sets on a shelf so lots of air can get to it but when a DVD is in for a short time it gets very warm that's why I was wondering if it could be getting to hot? But you said layers, so it's like an onion (ha,ha). Would you know what Dual players work best on onions, I mean DVD's with layers? laacea
