JVC VHS-C viewfinder will not come on

I own a JVC VHS-C camcorder model GR-AX841U. When I power on the camera the view finder stays black. Does not come on. I have checked the battery and tried another new one that was correctly charged and no luck. The lens cover is open just in case anyone was wondering. i have had this camera about 3 or 4 years. It has not been dropped or misused. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be.
