surround sound with powered speakers?

Here is what I have

Front left and right: KRK Rokit 8" powered speakers
Rear left and right: KRK Rokit 5" powered speakers
sub: KRK Rockit powered 10" sub

now here is my dilema:

I'm only using the front left and right and the sub, and i'm using them with my PC only, however I want to use them with my home theater system, and I would love surround sound, however I dont know if I can use powered speakers with a receiver. My speakers all use balanced inputs (xlr and 1/4"), so what type of receiver do I need? is this even possible? i hope so! please help :)
