Hi Larry. My prev post was cut off, so I am posting again. email is [email protected].

Like all the other poor saps I read here, my ws65909 has been manifesting the green blinking timer light after the power went out during the storm the other night.

After searching the internet, I can't believe how pervasive this problem is on Mit TV products, and seems to me to be a serious design flaw. Can anybody else spell "CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT"?????? I mean seriously!

Anyway, I would greatly appreciate it if you would please email me whatever repair docs you that are applicable.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi all,

Hi all,
I followed the instructions provided by Larry and fixed my WS55711. Everything working fine for three weeks. Then my son accidentally disconnected the power to the Monstor surge suppressor that my TV is plugged into and guess what, Green Blinking Light is back, TV is hosed again. Unfortunately only ordered 10 caps (to replace the 7, w/ a couple spares). So, go through this again or just resign myself that I have a $4k bookend and get a new TV. I agree on the posts on the pervasiveness of this problem and the lack of any support from Mitsubishi and their outlets. Sidenote, when I originally had the service guy from Anderson's (where I got the TV in SJ, CA) come in and after taking the DM board out, he made the statement that the caps were ok, didn't know what that meant at the time, but obviously he knew of this issue, but was either clueless on how to diagnose and fix it or was told to ignore the issue.

I have the same issue with my Mits WS-65713 I bought from Tweeter in 2004. I've been doing the research and will try to fix it myself. Can you tell me exactly what type of capacitor I should get and from where? There seems to be a ton of 1000uF 16V 105C type out there. I also would like to know if this issue will happen again if we're replacing default capacitors with the exact same type...meaning should we be changing to another type? Please send me the directions and all information needed to replace the capacitors. Thank you so [email protected].

Tom T sorry for the the reply

Tom T sorry for the the reply, haven't been feeling well in the past couple of weeks.I would first check the convergence fuses F9A05 and F9A04, If one or more double check the schematic and see what fuses are for this model of set to be surefor the plus and minus 24 volts (the convergence voltage is bad or not showing full! continuity,If one or more are bad the first thing to do is to replace the convergence IC'(S)THEN replace the fuse'(S) or you will cause more damage to the convergence circuit. Also did you replace DM the caps with the recommended high temp type?

Hey Larry- We had a power

Hey Larry- We had a power surge which tripped our circuit breaker (though the TV set is plugged into a surge protector?) and our Mitsubishi 55711 now has the "ever famous" constantly blinking green light. I pulled the back cover off (about 29 screws) and noticed a fuse right next to where the power cord is located. It looks okay.

Are there any other fuses that I should check to see if they were blown? Is my best course of action to do as the others have done and replace the capacitors?

If so, could you email me the pdf file...and any other tips or help? If needed, I could probably host the instructions for others to use on photobucket, so you (or me) could just post a link.

I hope that you are feeling better soon. If anyone else who already has the tips and instructions that were emailed by Larry to them...if you could email them, it would be much appreciated. My email address is [email protected]

Dave,

I just sent you an email with the service manual for the 55511. Alex (another member) was nice enough to send me Larry's fix via email. I sent an email to you on that also.

I ordered my capacitors today...so we shall see if my TV is fixed...after Christmas.

This picture is from the service manual...and looks a LOT like my picture above...in fact I recognize that metal box Laughing

Hope this helps!

Hey folks.

Hey folks.

I am not the ambulance chaser type, but I think that for the cost of these Mit HDTV units, we should be able to expect more quality than this type of built-in design flaw where the TV fries if the power is ungracefully interrupted, and I would be interested in hearing from any Attorney if a class action lawsuit against MitTV is possible. There are several other websites with identical discussion threads that could yield injured parties. I, for one, would be very interested in pursuing this.

Please feel free to contact me directly.

Thanks

Hello Larry and others

Hello Larry and others suffering from the Mits Green Blinking Light defects,

I have the same green blinking issue on a WD-73927 that occurred after a bulb change. Please email me the instructions/info for the DM repair at [email protected]

There were quite the range of opinions on the appropriate replacement capacitors to use for the DM board ranging from the OEM 1000uF 16v 85 degree to 1000uf 25v 105 degree to 1000uF 35v 125 degree.

Does anyone have an opinion if the higher voltage/higher temperature capacitors actually provide any meaningful additional protection?

It would also be helpful if someone could post, the short list of other likely components to inspect for damage/replacement while we have the set open for the DM capacitor repair.

Thanks for your help.

Rich,

Thanks for the response. The spec sheet you provided was helpful as were other related docs on the Panasonic site.
Based on the limited info available, we dont really know if these capacitors on the Mistsubishi DM boards are cooking themselves as a result of a voltage issue, a temperature issue or some other unknown factor.

It was interesting to see that the Panasonic sheets rated these capacitors with an endurance factor in hours in addition to the voltage and temperature characteristics.

The costs of these items are nominal 50c to $2 a piece depending on the model/manufacturer selected.

I picked some up from mouser electronics (mouser.com) and will see if that temporarily solves the problem.

It seems odd we cant just get this repair info posted online instead of repeatedly having to trouble some of the good natured helpful people here for a copy of the instructions on how to do this fix.

If any one has the instructions or can email or post a link on how to do the Mitsubish DM fix - please email me at [email protected].

Thanks.

Hi - here are some of the

Hi - here are some of the pictures and instructions I found in other forums on how to do the Mitsubishi DM capacitor repair.

http://www.chrisandnat.com/temp/BlinkingTV.pdf

The pictures and instructions in that pdf were most helpful.
I am still looking for more details on the other components to check.
The other posts have referred to a thermistor and some fuses that I have not
found the details on yet.

Please email me if at [email protected] if you have any additional insights or details, or documentation regarding these Mitsubishi DM repairs.

Hello - Many of the

Hello - Many of the Mitsubishi manuals are available in other forums online.
I found the Mits Manual for the "WD" DLP series (MODELS: WD-52627 / 52628 / 62627 / 62628 / 62827 / 62927 / 73727 / 73827 / 73927)at http://fileshare.eshop.bg/equipment_mfg/MITSUBISHI_2.html
There is other Mits documentation/service info there that may be helpful to other people.

The disassembly procedure for the WD-73927 to inspect the DM board is somewhat different than what is posted for the other "WS" models listed in this forum.
If you have any of the WD models listed , it is highly worthwhile to review the service manual disassembly instructions before attempting to inspect for any faulty capacitors.

I just wanted to check back

I just wanted to check back in a let everyone know that even though my capacitors looked normal...I used the ones suggested by Larry via his .pdf file and my TV is now working again!

Thanks so much Larry...for taking the time to let everyone know what to do for the deadly blinking light syndrome.

The total cost for me to repair my set was:

Solder removal tool-$10.60 plus tax at Radio Shack

Flux-$5.99 at Radio Shack

Capacitors I bought 14...double what I needed...in case this ever happens again!-$5.46

Shipping for the capacitors -$6.00 (LOL)

I already had a soldering iron

So the total cost was $28.05!!!

I have to stress that you NEED to get the solder removal tool. It took me less than 2 minutes to remove all seven capacitors. In two more minutes the new ones were soldered in!

Thanks again Larry. If you PM me your address I will send you something for making this available to everyone!

To everyone else who has this problem...good luck!

Finally got all my parts to

Finally got all my parts to do the CAP swap on the DM power supply board, no go after the swap, the 4A 125V surface mount fuse is blown with a considerable heat trace left behind, also, I am not sure if it was blown before I changed the caps or not.

I am going to try to find a replacement, I may just try a non SMT fast blow glass fuse and see if that pops quickly.

Any Ideas Welcome :)

the caps do have a positive

the caps do have a positive and a negative side on them and they do have to be installed with the proper polarity the fuses will probably look burnt if the caps are installed incorrectly

xplantdad
And like Larry said in his

And like Larry said in his wonderful instruction sheet...The caps polarity is marked. There is a series of minus signs (-) down the negative side...and the positive side has a longer 'lead' on it!
