I just looked back in my past

I just looked back in my past emails and found the email confirmation for the purchase. Looks like I bought them from the same place you do.

If I repair this again, do you know of any way I could wire in a fan to blow directly onto the heat sinks when the TV is turned on? I was reading somewhere that HD makes these things a lot hotter than SD TV, and most of my TV watching is in HD.

Thanks again Larry.
Also, where do you go for your pico fuses? I didnt see that site offering them..

Larry Dillon said: Smart man! Yes do get the right IC's for the job.  Also do not forget to install a new coating of heat sink compound on the back of the NEW IC's before you install them onto the printed circuit board.  You also may find out that after you replace these two IC's, the set has no big difference from what it looked like before.  DO NOT DISPAIR!  There are probably open feedback or return resistors or Circuit Protectors around the convergence ICs.  Take a multimeter and measure the plus and the minus 22volts DC on both IC's. The manual will show you where these points are.  Yes I will send you the service manual for this TV set, but you will need to go to pando.com and download the free software to open the manual. My e-mail provider, and possibly yours as well, will net allow me to send larger files via e-mail.  Good Luck with this repair and please let us know how the  repair works out for you.

Hi, Larry,

Will you please sent me a service manual? My e-mail address is [email protected]. Thanks.

Downloaded the manual.When I

Downloaded the manual. When I first turn the TV on it blinks 4 times and then comes on. The picture is kind of arced and the colors are messed up. The manual says it could be: (15v not supplied. D Board)(IC8003 is faulty. A Board). From what I have read in the forums, the TV is not worth spending $400 or $500 on to repair.I am considering getting another TV and maybe trying to repair this one to put in my 14 year old sons room. A friend of mine at work used to work on TV's so maybe I could get him to help me repair it.
Are the problems the self diagnostic showing real hard to fix and expensive? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Larry,all,

Larry,all,
I also am experiencing convergence issues with a Sony KP-46WT500. This started about six weeks after moving it cross country in a Penske rental sitting directly on the floor of the truck....what can I say, it was 102 in Austin TX when I was loading up....to darn hot to get fancy....maybe some foam padding would have helped...water over the dam...
Anyhow, I am an engineer with considerable PCB experience so none of what I have read so far seems too challenging. It seems obvious that some cold solder joints may be the culprit. I will be treading ligthly as I love he TV and want to get this right. I will work on pulling the PCB and giving a thorough visual and some metering to see if I can stumble onto something. If not, seems I will need to get some parts.
Lastly, as with many other requests, I see you have been giving acces to the service manual. Can you provide this to me. My email should be visible to you.
Thanks in advance.
Jim

Just want to confirm that my

Just want to confirm that my KP-46WT500 symptom fits the STKs/pico fuses solution described in this forum:

Top 1/5 of the screen is fine and convergence gets progressively worse going down the screen, i.e. red shifts to the left and green and blue shift to the right.

Also, the overall screen is "parallelogrammed," i.e. vertical positive skew. The skew angle for vertical red line is larger than blue, which is larger than green.

The problem happened after a few Flash Focus attempts. Does it make sense to perform PJE skew adjsutments on green, red, and blue? Or is this a case of likely convergence IC failure?

I also noticed that the values of PJE item #44-#61 on my tv are totally different from the default values in the manual (all 0's), and item #62 ERR shows 213(sensor 3 low output on blue).

Does anybody know a source

Does anybody know a source for the pico fuses?....radio shack, frys? anywhere localy in Las Vegas? Didnt see it discused anywhere in here...

According to the KP-46WT500

According to the KP-46WT500 schematics, there are no pico fuses for +22V and -22V. Is that true?

Hello jjcone,

Not sure if you got this fixed or not, but I had the -22 pico fuse blow on the G board when one or both of the convergence modules went on the D board.

On the G board I believe they are PS5001 and PS5002. I replaced the ceramic one with a glass one from a local electronics store. 5A 125 volts. Works fine.

I would warn you that the fuse likely did not blow on its own and was probably caused by one of the convergence modules going bad on the D board. I replaced both and then found the fuse blown.

Thanks to this forum for helping me in getting my TV back up and running.

Hi all,

Hi all,
I too have a Sony 51 inch tv with the convergence issue. I found out about the STK chips through another site and ordered them from bluestar. My brother installed them last week and when we powered it up the problem was un changed. We found techlore and discovered the pico fuse issue. After reading another thread, I bought 3.0 amp fuses locally no one seems to carry the 3.15 amp fuses. We installed 1 on the d board and reassembled it. powered it up and it looks the same. (the red blue and green are split making it look like an old school 3d movie it also has a bowed effect where the middle of the screen seems to be pulled in a bit making the picture curved) this has been consistent since the start. We then took the board out and checked the solder joints and conections they were all fine but the new pico fuse is blown. Should I put a higher amp fuse in or could there be some other problem?
Thanks for your help

If anyone is interested in a Sony KP-46WT-500 let me know.
I live in Central Connecticut and am not a electronics wizard. Too expensive to have convergence problem fixed. I have owner's manual and original remote.

I installed two new IC's in

I installed two new IC's in my KP-46WT500 today that I got from Liberty Electronics and upon installation, I noticed there was a couple traces that I'm not quite sure about. Does anybody have a close-up picture of the two IC's 8001 and 8002 that shows the exact traces so I can resolder them properly. The service manual doesn't really explain them, and if it does I didn't comprehend it. A picture would be fantastic. Any help is much appreciated.

Please email me at [email protected] with any help or photos anyone can provide.

Thanks again.

Brandon

Thanks I replaced the 2 stk

Thanks I replaced the 2 stk chips and one fuse and I am back up and running. i used parts from the ebay store suburban-elect and so far so good. I think my picture could use a little fine tuning but I am not sure its worth the hours of adjusting.

Hello,

Hello,

I have a sony screen kp46-wt500, initially had a problem that the image was toward the left, got the service manual by the way as I can upload? (with mayor resolution what we have), But I key on issues of DIY, so we did some modifications to the approach , Cleaning and so on and trying out that the overscan minimum, so good is incrible but in the right corner as both top down, convergence is not good because you look restart the PJE (who said he was not selected) but I did , Went back to adjust the guns to the best convergence that I see, but in the right corner can not achieve it.

The next step is change de STK and check the micro fuse, one cuestión only repair the fuse blow, return de good convergence or is necesary change the STK?

if th fue blew the iC should

if th fue blew the iC should be replaced becaue at one time or another ther IC was drawing excssive current

My 46" WT500 has done the same thing. I am comfortable soldering etc, but I am a bit concerned with the shocking risk, that's something I have never encountered. Is there a way to 'discharge' the cathodes? So they are safer to work around?
Parts are ordered, and I am now just trying to find time to do the repair.

Thanks Larry! I have gathered a lot info by just simply reading all the posts in this thread.

It's a simple repair, just take your time. There's no shocking risk until you're checking for voltages, but it's easier to just check the continuity of the pico fuses and you won't even have to turn it on until the repair is complete. Have no fear, I'd never done it before either and now I have a like new 46wt500 sitting in my room that I got for free!

I have Sony KP65WV700

I have Sony KP65WV700 projection TV. It just started after 8 years acting up. I get a bounce in the picture like it is moving in and out each few seconds. I did all of the Auto focus and convergence thru the user setups on the menu off the remote. It seems to help for a short while but it comes back. Either on cable or dvd player. After doing some searching and reading this sites mail i cant help to think i may need to change these chips you are all speaking of. I am not sure because i don have the bad convergence problems i am seeing on this site. maybe they are still to come and what i am seeing is the begining of it????? so what do any of you think? At any event i will need to open up the back of this set and clean it out, it has not been touched for 8 yrs. I do PCB design to make a living and will enjoy taking this toy apart to fix it but dont want to fix the wrong thing. This set has been very good to me so i want to order a service manual also. Also when i get it open what should i use to clean the glass and or any reccomendation on what areas need service, that i have been fortunate enough to have had to avoid til now. [email protected]

Thanks in advance

So I did the repair and it's the same.
So I have checked the fuses under the heatsink and they appear to all be good. I am getting a good reading {on all 6] when I do a continuity test with my meter. Any suggestions?

Thanks All, Brandon Chavez, Larry etc. I'm hoping my ~40 investment in parts can fix my TV.

Try checking the fuses on the vertical power board on the left looking at the back. I had one blown fuse on it.

Your problem is most liekly

Your problem is most liekly on the G board now, two green looking pico fuses if one or more are bad replace them.

Hi Larry, thanks for all your

Hi Larry, thanks for all your advices, I am really tempted to try this on my 46WT500 as my beams seems to be just a little bit off, not enough to bother you, but more noticeable when playing games on xbox360 in 1080i or 720p where lines should be sharp, they seem to have a dim ghost on the right side of them, would replacing the convergence ics should fix it or do you think it is something else? Also I would like to know if it is possible that you send me the service manual for this model if you have a chance I would greatly appreciate. I have not worked much on televisions, but I have been a computer tech for 12 years so I dont think I should have a problem replacing parts like those.

Alain - WHOA! Dude - you're

Alain - WHOA! Dude - you're talking about open heart surgery on a patient with the sniffles...

The ghosting is likely the xbox, internal dust, or that it just needs minor re-convergence... (bad chips = unwatchable TV).

Many devices convert everything to 480i unless you specifically tell it which HD format to use... So start by making sure it really is putting out 1080i.

If you're seeing the three diff colors that make up a solid line, then it needs converged. Otherwise your cause is likely dust.

Carefully vacuum dust from upper cabinet that may reflect light. If this does not fix the problem, use high-quality SOFT COTTON tea towels & dilute windex to clean the lenses (clean, fresh towel for each lens to avoid scratching them).

STOP HERE unless you're frustrated enough to buy a new TV. Mistakes past here get expensive, FAST.

The mirror and back of screen are easily scratched by the dust so don't clean unless you HAVE TO. (I used LOTS of the same formula, very light pressure, and again fresh towels for each.)

Converging the TV is only so-so explained in the manual so proceed with caution.

The PJE process is okay, but mess with any of the other couple hundred settings without writing them down and good luck! These settings vary from TV to TV and model to model and baselines are only "close". You'll end up paying someone more than the TV is worth to fix your mistake.

Good luck... hope that helps!

Alain
Hi Pokester, thanks for your

Hi Pokester, thanks for your quick reply! I will try to clean those tomorrow, I did not tought that the problem would have been so simple. I know for a fact that my xbox is displaying in 1080i with the component connection and the switch switched onto HDTV, so we can scratch that.. I will let you know how it goes :) by any chance would you have a link with a part of the service manual or something as I never took apart a RPTV before.

Thanks Again!

Alain
also I never set the

also I never set the convergence on something like this, is this done thru software in the a hidden menu? as I do not see anything related to it in the menus

Thanks
