Larry

I have a KP-46WT520 and the 9 blink problem.  I have the G board out and went to have the diodes replaced.  The tech said he has seen the problem before and the failure of the diodes is normally caused by some other failure.  Do you think he is right or are the diodes the weak link?  Also a new G board is $51 which is probably what it would cost to replace the diodes.  Thoughts?

Larry Dillon
If you replace the diodes

If you replace the diodes yourself, it should cost you less the 15 bucks. If you have someone do it, yes it may cost almost the same as a new board. There is not another problem. He may be trying to jack up the price to repair. I have always simply REPLACED the diodes and have had no further problems with the TV set. Good Luck

I am having the same 9 blink

I am having the same 9 blink problem with my Sony kp-46wt520. Does anyone have the manual on how to repair this?

Larry Dillon
There is no manual to repair

There is no manual to repair this problem I'm afraid. You really need to have a tech type attitude and know how to solder on Printed Circuit boards is the bottom line. Just follow the rest of the thread and you should be able to follow the repair. I am not going to re post another article on this repair as I already have repeated this at least 5 different times. A little research on your part will find the answer to our problem.  Good Luck on the repair of your TV set. If you have any problems, you can contact me at [email protected].

I got the picture to display

I got the picture to display on the screen, however the diagnosis screen will not disappear. Turning the power off does not make it go away nor does the reset code. Any tips?

Larry Dillon
You will need to replace the

You will need to replace the two diodes mentioned in this thread to get the set to come on without the diagnostic screen.

I got the TV working

I got the TV working perfectly. The beauty of it is that I got the set for free from a friend who was just going to throw it away. He got a quote of $450 to repair and I fixed it myself for free! Thanks for your help!!!

Can you explain your details

Can you explain your details of the repair please?

Thanks to Larry and all who make this Site possible.  I was able to fix my Brother-In-Laws TV for under $13 Bucks (including shipping). His TV had the same problem and was about one month out of warranty.

Replacing those two pesky diodes did the trick.

 Thanks again.

I have the KP-46WT520 and is

I have the KP-46WT520 and is still under warranty.  I recently received the 9 blink issue so I called them up explained the issue and told them that I believed I needed a G-Board.  After being placed on hold they verified that I indeed needed a G-Board.  Today they installed the G-Board and I am still receiving the same issue.  I'm not sure if the tech needed to reset anything but he believed that I needed a D-Board.  So the tech took out the G-Board and now is ordering the D-Board.  Does this sound right?  Could the D-Board also cause this issue?  Thanks!

Larry Dillon
I have never heard the D

I have never heard the D board causing this trouble,. I am wondering if the person they sent out is a board jocky or a tech?

So the tech came out

So the tech came out yesterday and replaced the D board.  Guess it did the trick because I no longer have any power issues.

That is very rare, the zero

That is very rare, the zero crossing signal is sent to the "D" board to be processed. So it was not the generation of the signal that was at fault, it was the decoding of the signal. I have never seen that before, but anything is possible.

That is another reason why boards like this can only go so far, we don't have the tv in front of us, and we can only give advice based on common experience. But every now and again you will get something strange like this. "G" board is the usual cause. - But like i said without the set in front of us it is imposable to know for sure.

That is why the tech first

That is why the tech first replaced the G board. I bet he never had an issue like this as well.

I'm trying to buy the diodes

This is my first post to

This is my first post to TechLore. Please forgive me if I am posting to the wrong area.

I was recently given an ill Sony KP-46WT520 which is exhibiting a 10-blink diagnostic display. I have downloaded a PDF of it's service manual, and I see this diagnostic item: HV Protection.

The probable cause location is described as the D-Board, specifically Q8014 or Q8013, as well as R8051 and IC8005.  I have been contemplating a DIY repair, but thought it would be wise to inquire about the High Voltage concerns when working on projection TVs (if not TVs, in general).

Provided contact is avoided with other components, can the D-Board be safely removed (and subsequently reinstalled) as per the service manual's instructions?

I would describe my technical expertise as a bit below moderate -- I frequently dive into VCRs, CD players and computers, but I am quite a coward when it comes to televisions and their "surprise" charges.

My hope is to inspect the D-Board, to see if any solder traces are visibly questionable, and to resolder those items, praying for the TV to magically come back to life. If the D-Board can be safely removed and re-installed, I may wind up purchasing one, if they can still be found at a reasonable price.

I certainly do appreciate any suggestions and advice. I already appreciate the GREAT amount I have already learned simply by reading previous posts. This is an amazingly informative site. Thank you in advance.

I doubt if you will be able

I doubt if you will be able to find a new one. But! All is not lost. Go to ptscorp.com,get the telephone number and call them and see how much they charge to overhaul the D board. This is what this company does ir repair and overhaul circuit boards. Just follow the directions in the manual on how to disconnect the high voltage leads from the distribution block, Do not try and remove it from the High voltage transformer. Good Luck

    I have A Sony KP-46WT520,

I have A Sony KP-46WT520, When I turn on the TV the volume works but the screen never comes on and after a few seconds the TV clicks and turns off, the stand by light blinks ten times and after turning the TV on and off several times the TV stays on and everything works great the picture is perfect. Can you tell me how to fix this, part numbers, and where to buy.
    Thank you

Go up about 5 replys and your answer is there. These parts are on the G board. Just replace them. Do not resolder them.

    So my problem is more

So my problem is more compared to 9-blink diagnostic for the G board and not the 10-blink diagnostic for the D board ? Just making sure before I buy parts.
Thank you I value your help!

You could have a bad D board

You could have a bad D board but i have seen the diodes on the G board cause this problem so go the inexpensive way out first.
