Oh so the other peeps will be

Oh so the other peeps will be a little disappointed then? I knew it was to true to be real!

Larry Dillon
Maybe they are in co hoots

Maybe they are in co hoots with the Tristate peeps?

Sweet, I hope it's the actual

Sweet, I hope it's the actual board... But if it is, I will of course have to hate you....

Got my UPS tracking number,

Got my UPS tracking number, fingers crossed.

Larry Dillon
I hope it is the entire and

I hope it is the entire and complete board as well. Hope it is not missing like the high voltage transformer or something like that.

Nothing new on the Sony Vs

 Toshiba 42h81

Nothing new on the Sony Vs UPS front.  But I picked up this off of craigslist over the weekend for $50 bucks.  It has the same problem but I just orderd 4 (yes I got 2 backups) IC's "STK392-150 " (note: I went with 150's instead of 110's because that number stands for how many watts it will handle), plus it has an "unbroken" D type board.

Larry Dillon
Dang man, how much was this

Dang man, how much was this to ship? I want one from my area. How did you find it?

mathelm
craigslist.com  , It's like a

craigslist.com  , It's like a free ebay for local stuff.  No shipping, I just drove to the guys house and picked it up.  He even gave me a service manual for it.

Dang man, I have to start

Dang man, I have to start looking at that list again. I used to a while back.

Hello everybody,

Hello everybody,

I have the same convergence problem that everybody else has been having with their Crappy Sony kp-51ws510. I was wondering if anyone could send me the service manual to [email protected]

Also, I have low to medium experience with electronice would it be better to buy the D-board, or shoud i buy the Ic's.

Thank you very much for all your help.

Larry Dillon
The D board will cost you 10

The D board will cost you 10 times if not more to replace the IC's. But the iC's may not be the only problem with the set after you replace them. You could have open pico fuses on the G board or open CP's or resistors in the convergence circuit, so you will need to have a multimeter and know how to trace the circuit flow by using a schematic diagram and meter to trace the voltages in the convergence circuit. Good Luck

don't pick on sony for this

don't pick on sony for this problem, Philips, Hitachi, Pioneer, Mitsubishi and others have also used these ic's in their sets, and they all have this problem across the board! i can't count how many of these repairs i have done. we carry a high volume of these ic's in stock, and we are always needing more.  In most cases i have found that the heat sink compound had dried onto the heat sink. This may be more advanced topic but; if you have repeat failure of the ic's, i have been able to resolve this problem by clearing out the dc module and then doing a manual centering convergence. i then monitor the current flow through the ic's off of the 32 volt power (pos and neg supplies)supply and watch the meter as i make the adjustments and it is amazing how much current can be used in one single adjustment, mainly on the edges it takes more current to converge the edges than the middle.  If you need to do a digital shift to the whole grid it can send the current soaring. at least on the Pioneers you can exceed the fuse rating for the 32 volt line! Random adjustments without proper centering points can cause repeat failures and blown fuses.

Didn't read the whole post
Didn't read the whole post huh.  That's ok, but you can't buy a new one, they don't exists.  And after some reading I've found that all projection TV's have this issue.  What happens (in my opion) is that over time the insides collect dust and over heat, thus burning up the IC's.
.
Just sent you the manuals via Pando.  It's a simple install that allows you to recieve large ( 67.5 meg ) files.
.
I'd say take the time and read this whole post to decide which direction you want to take, and feel free to ask a question.

Yes I agree with you 100%

Yes I agree with you 100% about all of the different manufacturers use of this series of IC's and they all have troubles. I too have done 100's of these repairs and yes the heat sink compound does make a big difference. i have also had the problems of using aftermarket IC's cause repeated failure of the IC's. I have also in my own projection TV set installed a small cooling fan on the heat sink and have never had the convergence problem.  But when I try and tell a lot of peeps about all the different sets having this problem, most will say that it is not fair, the set should have lasted longer. Some I suppose would like the TV set to last forever and a day.  Now a days, folks are lucky to get 3 to 4 years out of a new set in my opinion.

We have been through that cheap ic problem ourselves, we have as a company decided to get our ic's from pioneer only and use the stk392-180 in all the repairs, and it has helped. i have found that at least on pioneer(at least and i suspect that other brands are similar) that as the tubes age and the deflection properties shift in the tube. When the auto focus is pressed the sensors will re converge the unit shifting the current flow over time. That combined with bad heat dissipation due to dry compound causes the ic's to fail, if i check for centering with the convergence yokes set to neutral (zero correction) the centering is off and re adjusting the centering magnets on the crt back to factory positions will reduce the current flow when you go to re-converge the set.*We don’t primarily service pioneer, It is a small percentage of our service, the bulk is Phillips, SonyI hope that makes sense.

Larry Dillon
Well you also have to figure

Well you also have to figure that resistors as well as the capacitors will cause the shifting of the convergence, and I am also told that the yoke impedance also plays a major factor as well.

good points and i agree with you.

WELL................   LET

WELL................   LET THE HATING BEGIN. I JUST GOT MY  A1302180A BOARD FROM SONY. HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY

Larry Dillon
Well good for you. You were

Well good for you. You were lucky enough to find a total board.  As a matter of fact, I 100% know for sure this board you received was not new, but a rebuilt type. And that does not make it bad, but it may in the near future. Good Luck You will see soon enough I guess.

Let me be the first to say...

Let me be the first to say..... Can I have your old one?

Larry Dillon
LOL no don't give it to him,

LOL no don't give it to him, it is worth at least 200 bucks.. LOL No he just bought a good Sony set from someone else.  No selling by the way is allowed here I'm afraid, so any threads mentioning the sale or trading will have to be pulled without notification.

mathelm
It's a Toshiba, it's only 42"

It's a Toshiba, it's only 42" and it too has screwed up IC's.  And I did say GIVE.....lol

But seriously, why do you think there's no selling?  Sponsors maybe?

How do they feel about trading?Tongue out

Rami4life
thank you very much everybody

thank you very much everybody, I really appreciate the help! I did read the whole post...there was a lot of back and forth between the two different items. I know i won't be able to find a new board. I am fine with that.

Larry: I do like the fan idea. was it easy mounting the fan, and how did you connect it to a power source i am assuming you wired it into the tv so that the fan turns on when the TV turns on, right?

anyways i am going to read the service manual now(thank you Mathelm).

mathelm
The only problem with the fan

The only problem with the fan in that model is that the screen and lamp are all open to the circuit boards and any dust will be blown all over the mirror, screen and lamps.  Maybe some sort of filter at the back of the TV would work.

A good cleaning every few months would have probably worked too.

Did I ever tell you about the time a bettle got into mine and kept flying around inside the screen.  That thing must have lived for two weeks or more...

Larry Dillon
a bettle? Never heard of that

a bettle? Never heard of that one. LOL Oh you mean a beatle.. Did it have long hair too?

mathelm
No..and uh...NO..lol  A bug..

No..and uh...NO..lol  A bug..... a stinkin' flyin' BUG!  It would fly around in there and sometimes look as big as a hawk.   Made for a great effect, depending on what you were watching of course...Surprised

Ta Daaaaa..... Replaced the

Ta Daaaaa..... Replaced the IC's in the Toshiba last night and after several hours of readjusting that grid in service mode ( some one tried to fix it that way ) it now has a nice clean HD picture.

So, not including my time, I now have a 42" HDTV for about $76 bucks......Surprised
