Playing Portable MP3 Music in the Car Using Wireless FM Transmitters

Playing music from a portable MP3 player in the car has always seemed obvious but for early adopters, it's been a struggle until recently. One increasingly popular alternative is using FM transmitters that broadcast the music signal from your player to an unused frequency on your car's radio. I have tried three different gadgets that are all supposed to achieve the same result but have discovered that there are quite a few things to consider when shopping for a FM transmitter solution.

In building this community, one of the most difficult decisions we encountered was the organization of content. There are several axes of information around which we could organize, but settled on the following:

  • Consumer electronics product category (MP3 player, Digital Camera, etc.)
  • Type of article (Knowledge, Experience, Opinion)
  • Order in which article was submitted
  • Usefulness of the article

What is Dolby Digital?

Dolby Laboratories, founded in 1965, has been arguably the most influential company in the sound industry since its inception. Most people are familiar with the Dolby Logo, stemming back to when analog cassette tapes were the standard for music listening. Although few people knew how the Dolby Noise Reduction system worked, they did know that tapes played back with Dolby technology sounded better when it was used.
