No iPod Cases! How 'bout egrips?

I am one of hordes of folks who picked up the latest iPod (5G) that "also plays video". I have lots to say about the device itself but I want to pass along a quick tip I have for protecting the device until the cases show up on the store shelves.

If you haven't been tracking this, Apple seems to be improving just how easily their precious little devices can be scratched with each successive iPod generation. I swear this 60GB version is worse than the Nano I previously bought. Anyway, there are no real protective case solutions for the gadget yet which means your new toy will invariably get all marked up in the meantime.

I have found that by applying some spare egrips strips to the back and sides of the shiny iPod, I am really cutting down on the short-term damage. I was already a fan of egrips and use them for my Treo and other gadgets. The product comes in dozens of varieties, some specifically designed to fit a particular device and others that are just random sizes and shapes.

Putting strips on the sides and the back of the iPod has made it much easier to handle - and harder to drop! I also feel more comfortable laying it down on surfaces now as the strips on the back give it a little more cushion/protection.

One final sub-tip. I also use a DLO FM transmitter to play the iPod in the car and I first underestimated the snug-ness of the fit into the adaptor. I had to rearrange the strips on the side of the iPod to be able to fit it into the car kit without force. So just make sure you consider all the places you are or will use the iPod before you begin your craft project!
