thank's Matt for telling the right place!!!!! My rca 2002 32in. went crazy it had all those symtem's and more turn on and off ect. in the shop now est.175.00said it was the eprom. let's sue rca they suck
I have an older 27" RCA (circ 1998) which was in perfect working condition until I signed up with a satellite service and I have has multiple problems since. BTW, I no longer subscribe to the above mentioned service.
The original remote that come with the no longer turns the tv on, that must be done manually. Next the remote does not channel up or down for about 3 - 4 minutes. I am unable to enter (i.e.) 47 and have the tv respond accordinally. In order to obtain channel 47 I must channel up one channel at a time.
The tech supposedly changed the code so the satellite remote would work to turn the tv on and off but it only turned it off. I was able to access the different channels with no problem.
I have read the manual but can find no resolution in this matter. I am beginning to suspect that the tv code itself was somehow changed.
Geez I guess I have been out of ther loop a little long then Dan. I still repair lots of sets but just for old customers. We used to in a shop, get no more then a hunderd or 125 for an eeprom job. Oh by the way you can get pre programmed eeproms for almost the cost of a regular blank one. Yes you may need to do a touch up but alot easyer then starting from scratch.
I would first go out and get an inexpensive RCA type universal remote. This will tell you if all of your problems are in the remote or the TV and the remote. If the problem is in the TV set, most likly you have a problem with the remote sensor or the microprocessor in the TV set. There is is not much a user can do with these sets, as there are no real user replaceable parts inside this TV set. If the remote does not work you will need to take it to a repair shop, but I would first see what a new set would cost, as you stated the set is eight years or older. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out with this TV.
update on 32 in. rca repair cost 185.00 the guy said he had to put in a new micro processer pluss the eprom . when i told him about the 5.00 part he did not like that and insisted that it was a lot of labor + the micro processer . the part must have come from canada that was the setting.
Larry, read one of your earlier posts about changing the remote. so, went to wally world and bought the $10 remote, they ranged from $7 to $21. most all functions are restored. the only thing is I have to wait about 3 minutes for the program guide to go away, but if that's the only draw back, I can live with that. thanks.
Lando said: I have a RCA home theater late 1990s 60 inch. I have had some work done a few years ago and it worked great but now I am having a problem where the menu pops up for no reason the set will then not respond to the remote or front panel controls. It would not turn off so I pulled the plug And now it will not turn back on. I have had some minor work just done to the set it cost $100, the tech said he had to retrace some of the lines on a circuit board but, it worked for them, I brought it home and it worked for an hour and the problem came back. I am wondering does anyone think it may be the microprocessor and how much that would cost. Any help would be appreciated.
Just wanted to give all of you an update. The tech who "fixed" my set, just resoldered a few connections and I brought the set back home again. It worked up until December 15th 2006 and then I was watching a DVD and the set made a loud popping noise and will not turn back on now. I have purchased a Samsung HD 50" DLP for the time being and it is a good set. But, I miss my RCA. I still have that set and will take it back to be repaired this spring.
I have a RCA 32V434T model I purchased on 7/2006. The TV is defective. It keeps turning itself off and on. I have called RCA and did all they asked to do, like unplugging it, making sure the timer wasn't on, or the kid pass. So anything going on in my home is ruled out. It is the TV. So they will cover parts, and I have to cover the labor costs. What possibly is wrong with my TV, is it worth getting fixed??? Does RCA have a bad rep. I bought it at Walmart and paid extra for the name brand. I won't buy RCA again. I am so aggravated, it is brand new and broke! If you have had similar experience let me know. I am interested if you got it fixed, did it function well after that? I called their customer service and got a lot attitude from them. Seeing all the other problems that are posted with RCA , I would say they have their hands full. Does anyone know an address, or phone number I call and write to keep letting them know their product is lousy?
Thats too bad barker001. You shouyld certainly call or write RCA on this problem. they wilkl most likley say it only has a 90 day labor warranty. This is the place to send an E-mail. http://tv.rca.com/en-US/ContactUs.html Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.
barker001 i have a 2002 32in. rca doe's your set have guide plus ?i had the same problem plus menu or guide plus came on and off ect. $185.00 to fix it eprom and micro processer it work's great now !it allways had and still does have a great pic.
I have a 2004 rca 52' rear projection model :D52W17
Have problem with picture and tv shuts itself off and won't come back on. I removed front cover as I was thinking power problem and I unhooked a wire labeled screen protector (I assumed it was a wire to turn off the tv if the screen protector was removed?) Anyways, tv turned back on and made a wire shorting sound in rear of tv for about 5 mins. Tv has been working fine now exept the picture bounces for about 5 minutes every time I turn it on.
Anyone had this problem or know what might be the problem as the repair shop said I'm looking 300-350Can, plus parts to look at it (he thinks power supply)
Matt Whitlock said: That is a really weird issue. Either it has totally gone cooky, or the TV has a factory demo mode that got enabled. Check your TVs manual to see if this is the case.
seen this problem on rca and some outher sets. when ms smith cleans her dirty screen she would spray cleaner on the screen and it would drip down in, on, the buttons if there under the screen, the cure replace the buttons they can be ordered and are easy to replace. note spray cleaner on rag first then clean glass. Vic from gun barrel city usa
my rca tv has developed a line that runs bottom to top and is distorted where the line goes also there is a black triangle that follows the up as well, but i do have picture still, when i tap the tv it fixes for a short while, any ideas on what could be the problem

After getting the nowhere on my complaints to RCA, I called and talked to the store manager at Walmart where I purchased my model 32V343T. The manager gave me store credit for the TV and I got a different brand. I don't have much to say about RCA, but Thankfully Walmart came through on this for me! The manager was sympathiac and made the situation right!
Joseph R. It sounds like you have a bad solder connection somewhere on the chassis. If you know how a TV set works and know how to solder, maybe you will be able to track down the connection, but if you do not have the ability, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. I TV set is not something to be experiementing around inside of. I could be around the flyback or one of the power supply connections or grounds. A model number and or the chassis number would have been nice, as there are some RCA TV sets that have a common problem with ground and tuner connections. This repair should not cost that much to fix, but if the set is over 5 years old and not a projection TV, purchace another TV set, you got your moneys worth out of it. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.
Larry Dillon said: Gambit, I still do not understand your problem by how you describe your complaint.
The only way I could describe it better would be, When i bring up my satalite menu or watch a tv station that puts there logo in the bottom corner, the screen bounces and sometimes i can see the logo sometimes i can only see half of the logo or menu. It started doing this only for about 5 minutes and then seemed to right itself, but now it won't stop no matter how long I have the tv on for. I have tried switching the zooms to different views but this does not change the problem, still have the "wavy" picture.

yes i can give you a model and chassis number.......model number is F25261 and the chassis is CTC185AA9,ty for responding so quickly Larry
Larry Dillon said: So the whole picture has a verticle jitter or bounce?
Do you remember watching movies in school on the projectors on the pull down screens. the picture always looked wavy because the air coditioning would blow the screen back and forth. I really shouldn't have said bounce as it is more like a wavy, I know what your thinking with the virtical jitter idea but it's not like that, the picture waves in and out almost like zooming in and out.
I have an RCA 52" rear projection TV model#D52w20. TV will not power on at all green light blinks once then turns off. Thats it. Repairman today told me it needs a convergence board 650.00. Because the TV sells for 800.00 at walmart I decided not to go with the repair so unless I can fix it, it will go out on curb. Does this sound familiar to anyone? and Where can I purchase a Convergence board? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
It sounds familiar to me it had happened a few times in the past 3 month but now mine won't even turn on. Does anyone have any ideas???? I have no called the repair man yet I wanted to check on here and I noticed that there are quite a few poeple with these problems but no one actually finishes off the posts when they get it fixed.
Auria, this board does not get replaced but repaired. You can look at http://www.ptscorp.com get the telephone number and call them to see how much they will charge to rebuild the board, or get a local person to rebuld it. You will most likely need some alighnment done when you put the board back in.. $650.00 is a total rip-off if you ask me. This board should be repaired and put back in the set and adjusted for 250 to 350. See if you can get someone else to do this for you if you have no Tv repair knowledge or soldering abilitys. Good Luck and let us know how you make out with this set.

175.00 bucks for a 5 $ part seems a bit steep!
my front panel on my 27' RCA is locked.i dont remember the password to the remote to unlock it. What can i do
While I agree that $175 is a bit steep, think about the process that must occur to restore your set.
1) Install new Eprom to start set and repair cold solder joints in the tuner that started the problem in the first place.
2) While the set is on, insert the old one.
3) Read all of the TV parameters for the set and write down.
4) Insert new eprom and modify all parameters to match originals.
This process usually takes a couple of hours if done properly. Once complete, you should not have the problem again.
