First of all I suggest calling Mitsubishi like I did, I got a good response... They would have fixed it for me for free or what i choose was to get a replacement upgrade for the same price the estimate was to repair tv. If you do the repair yourself basically you take the tv apart following the steps in the chassis removal found here http://aevans0001.keepandshare.com. This share page has all the downloads I have found here and elsewhere. And the caps more than likely have to be ordered online I live in DFW and they electronic store here had a whole wall of Caps and unfortunately not the ones I needed for the Power board, they did have the DM board caps though..... The Digikey part number for the caps I needed is P5523-ND this is for CAP 3300UF 10V ELECT NHG RADIAL.... I believe this to be the right part...

Thanks Adam! Im just a

Thanks Adam! Im just a couple hours east of the DFW area so I figure I have fewer options for the caps in stores than you! LOL Anyway this is VERY helpful!

I called Mitsubishi and they want me to get a repairman out to give a quote on the repair cost (I have to pay this it sounds like). I have to fax them the quote, invoice of purchase and some personal info. They did say they would help with the cost of the repair. Im not sure exactly what that means yet, but I'll keep it posted here.
I did mentioned on the call that this evidently was a common problem because there are thousands of threads and complaints posted online.
Thanks again for the assistance.

Nah Just tell them you want

Nah Just tell them you want them to pay.... Depending on the amount of service you have had on the unit... I had service almost every year on it, so I asked to speak to a supervisor then all of the sudden he said they will pay for the tech...
Either way what they will tell you is that they will either pay for the fix or they will let you purchase a tv for the same amount as estimate.... I would talk to the tech and have him write it up for about 500.... My guy wrote it up for around that and so that is what I was offered... Another guy i saw on one of these forums had the estimate read like $800 so they told him he would have to pay that uch for a new tv.... And also remember that the 737 models do not have that really useful function your family uses alot like the fornt sd card input to show pictures or that other useful feature of Net command, because all your other components are behind a cabinet. Then tell them you noticed the 837 models do include these features so it is more of a comparable model.... Plus you already spent 2000 on a tv that wasn't worth a darn and now they are asking for even more....

If all else fails ask for a supervisor...
There is no need to be a jerk about this they will cave very easily...

Very true, no need to be a jerk but I guess I have already been screwed. Paid $3000 for the thing! Anyway, GREAT advise. Thanks again. We'll see how it goes. Let y'all know!

@Aevans0001 - Was your TV

@Aevans0001 - Was your TV out of warranty?

We bought the extended warranty and mine died after the expiration of the extended warranty.

I'm not sure if it's too late to call Mits now. I started to take things apart but haven't been able to find the time to fix it yet; slowly reading, learning the instructions, buying tools/parts, etc. when I have time. Gotta feed the family first. It makes me mad that we worked hard to earn our money then we spent that on a piece of junk. My old CRT Sony was cheaper and lasted much longer than this.

@Cowboy 1969 - 60 pages here and many many many other forums.....

Why is Mits not recalling these tvs?

I would put it back and make the warranty sticker look good and then call them... Make sure they pay for the service tech. The guy they sent this time wasn't very worried about the tv.... It was out of extended warranty.. So try it you may wish you had...

@ Victim...YEP a bunch of complaints. That is what I told Mits over the phone. My TV is also out of warrenty but they said the would "help" with the fix. Still not sure what that means but we will see. I sent in the stuff they asked for and awaiting a response. I agree with Aevans that you should put it back together and try Mits first.
The service guy they refered me to in my area didnt even come out to look at the TV. He asked me how i felt about the new ones.... and said mine was "kaput"! I went to his shop, without the TV, he filled out a quote to repair and i faxed it to Mit.
I'll keep posting...

you can check my keepandshare

you can check my keepandshare page posted above.... you can also search this topic and you can search for V26 re dlight problem or 525 red light or something like that, as I understand that is a lamp problem of some kind... Did you just change the bulb?

Call Mits before you do anything internally they will probably work with you on it.....Be nice but forceful, politely ask for supervisor if things aren't going your way....

Aevans0001
Look on my page http:/

I took the advice from the

I took the advice from the good folks on this thread and called Mits. THANK YOU!!!!

I highly recommend everyone to do the same BEFORE trying to fix on your own, even after warranty expired.

I called Mits. The Customer Relations Rep came on and I explained calmly. I told him that I was not alone and there are thousands of discussions on the web about this problem. I told him that it was a design problem and should have been recalled.
He offered NO arguments and told me to get a tech to check my TV out then send him the report. I politely asked him (Mits) to pay for this since it was not at my fault. Again, he offered NO arguments and gave me a case number and authorized to pay for the service. A tech will come out next week and I'll send Mits my report. After that, Mits will evaluate the report and let me know what they will do. This is their chance to do the right thing.

I was unhappy that they didn't offer to pay for the service in the first place. They made me asked for it when they knew it was the right way to handle it. Anyway, I made some progress. We'll see how they'll handle my case. I'll keep you posted.

As the good folks on this thread recommended - no need to be a jerk. Just let them know you're not happy and ask Mits to help fix a design problem.

The preferred method would be for Mits to recall their TVs so we wouldn't have to go through all this.

I'd love to hear how this

I'd love to hear how this plays out so please let us know how it all works out for you. Also, I bought my set used at an estate sale. What kind of proof of purchase does one have to produce? I'm just wondering if this might not work for me as I'm not the original owner.
So far so good on the fix that I did but knowing this set and all the problems that I've seen with everyone, I just want to know what I might be able to do should I run into additional problems.

bigred442666
Heres my outcome thus far.

Heres my outcome thus far.

@ Victim

Well you started better than I did. I paid for the "so called" service call. He didnt even come out. My quote was for $800 to repair my WD52525. Mits called me and gave me two options.
-#1 they would pay 50% of the service to repair ($400). or
-#2 I could purchase a new WD-60737 for the $800.
So I didnt get as lucky as "Aevans" but my TV is only a 52". So, I played the same card as Aevans, "My tv has NetCommand, and front SD card slots" that I use ALL the time. The 737 does not. I asked them for a 837. They informed me that they only come in 65" which is much larger than the one I have. DUH!!! Anyway, I said thats what I would take. They agreed but wanted an upgrade fee to be added to the $800. Total cost to me for the WD-65837 would be $1300. I told them I was not willing to pay that. They reminded me that Mits was not "required or obligated" to do anything, but asked what I would be willing to pay for the 65"? I told them $800..... Long story short (kinda) Im getting the 65837 for $1000 including the base. guess it beats starting from scratch.
I would like to keep my 52" and try my hand at the repair. I'll see how that goes.
I hope these new tv's are more reliable.

@ Gary

I had to sent them my sales receipt. You may want to tell them you have lost it?!?!? IDK...
Good luck! I'll let everyone know when the 837 gets to me.

Ryo_Ohki2
Called Mitsubishi Customer

Called Mitsubishi Customer Relation. As mentioned by others, they require a authorized service tech to come over to check on the TV and give an estimate on the repair, and I would have to pay for the service call. Apparently there's only one place around that can do that in my area for $95. Debating whether it's worth having a tech come out, and paying Mitsubishi to swap out the TV for $500+ (or what ever they might charge) considering that a new Plasma TV from Costco is only $800 for 50".

I'm personally thinking of dumping the TV for parts and get a new one. I believe my FMT board is fine, but the DM board is bad. I have a coworker who fixes TV for a side job and that's his summation of what he saw most on the WD52X25 TVs. Some was able to get going with Cap changes, and other not. Unfortunately for me cap changes doesn't work for me (even with the FMT switch trick).

Aevans0001
@victim Good deal! Glad I

@victim Good deal! Glad I could help.... Talk to the Tech who came out they will want to come out and get it... Tell them you can get the Serial # tag off (in one piece) and deliver it to them, but you want to keep the TV... I understand [ :) ] that this is all Mits requires.....

@ Cowboy that still sound slike a good deal with the base included

@Gary This maybe kinda tough, only thing I can say is be persistent and tell them you lost the receipt... Maybe the prior people registered it maybe not... You also do not remember dates or places very well...Maybe it was Best Buy or
maybe it was Wal mart I don't remember....Amnesia is great in these instances

@Ryo Call them back and tell them you think they need to pay for tech....

@Everyone

The techs apparently aren't worried about theses tvs you need to tell them if they aren't going to look at it they need to at least give you a low quote....

My Tech came out and looked behind the tv and pressed the Power button then wrote me a qoute for ~$500.. They always use the qoute to give you your price, so my price was ~$500....

On a side note on got my WD-62525 [ :) ] working.... I purchased a power board from the local tech for $60.00

Luckily for me, the previous

Luckily for me, the previous owner of my TV fixed it for free. It was just a few caps but I couldn't visibly see which ones were bad. I'm going to have him fix it every time until it can't be fixed anymore then call mits up.

I have an update on my tv

I have an update on my tv deal. Mits called me today to tell me that they have received payment but that they were out of the WD-65837 I was dealing for. I got kinda peaved, they said it would be the first of July before I get my replacement tv. He also said it would be a 2010/2011 WD-65838 w/base! Two months is a while to wait but this TV sound COOL! I hope its a good one. It has a few nice feature compaired to the 837. Bluetooth, suround sound.... Probably worth the wait.

@ Victim
You having any luck?

@ Aevans
I talked to my local dealer that will more than likely work the exchange. He said that they were required to take my old set because the chassie was worth about $1100. IDK, but still going to try.

Larry Dillon
tyhey should have known when

tyhey should have known when they promised the upgrade to you that they did not have any in stock!!!!! I would call up and ask for their supervisor! demand the next better model that is instock!!! it is their mistake not yours??? next they will call and say they found the same model that you havenow and they reconditioned it, it happened to one of my customers and guess what set is broke aready!!!!!!!dont let them jerk you around!!!!!
Larry
unless you want to wait and take that chance??and ask mitsubishi for an extra year factory warrantee on paper!

Aevans0001
@cowboy

@cowboy

Yeah that tv sounds pretty good.... The local dealer is full of crap all Mits wants is the Seriel number.. The local techs fix the chasis and then resell them... Thats How I got a power board for mine, my guy is straight up with me... But in the end it is their choice...

@Larry

Problem is the next step up would be an LCD and you would lose Inches...Not saying that they may not deal for it but it would be up to Cowboy...

bigred442666
@Larry

@Larry

Good advise. I'll keep that in mind. I think I'll chance it though. I will not deal with a refurb and they have been pretty straight up with me so far. IDK, we will see.

@Aevans

Ya, thats what I thought. They had 2 refurbs on the floor of the same yr model. A 52525 and 62525. I'm still going to try.
