Panasonic Bookshelf Stereo SA-PM28

Help! Although I've had this stereo over a year, if I've used it more than 25 times it's a lot. Now it will play the first track on a CD and stop. I can get to track 2 only by pushing the fast forward button on the machine, but then it stops after the 2nd song. It's a 5 CD changer and happens in all CD trays and on all CDs. The problem is definitely not my CD. Any ideas? THANKS SOOOOO much!

Did you try a CD player

Did you try a CD player cleaner disk?

Actually I finally called the

Actually I finally called the tech center. DUH! I had evidently reprogrammed it via the remote to play one random song, then stop. All I had to do was reprogram it to play "all discs" and I'm back in business. Thanks for your help.

While I'm not sure of the

While I'm not sure of the model of my Panasonic bookshelf stereo (5 cd changer with cassette and radio), I'm hoping someone knows the answer to this problem.  We moved this unit without reading the manual and come to find out it needs to be "parked" before moving it.  Now it will not power up.  Is there a re-set or some other way of bring it to life? Thanks

If you had all the disc out

If you had all the disc out and let the unit cycle before you moved it , the unit was in park.  When you say power up, are there any lights at all and no sound? Your problem does not I think have anything to do with the park, as parking the disc is related to the disc player only.  The unit could have gotten shaken and a Printed circuit board could have cracked, Or make sure you have the unit plugged into a know good wall receptical, and if its a mutivoltage unbit make sure the voltage switch on the back If there is one is set to the proper voltage.  If you still cannot get this unit to work and your not a tech, its time to viset the repair shop.  Being a shelf unit , it may not be worth your time trouble or money to have this unit even looked at. Read the post and you be the judge.  Good Luck                    http://www.techlore.com/article/10602/

Thanks for the reply..The unit is set for proper voltage but still does not light up or have sound.  We were very careful when it was moved not to jostle it, so I was hoping there might just be a reset switch or fuse that might have blown.  I know going to a shop with it will be more than replacing with a current unit.  I am just the type that can't let go of something that might be fixed we a tweak or two.

I move mine all the time.  We

I move mine all the time.  We take it outdoors for pool parties at our condominium complex.  Have never had a problem, and I don't "park" it or do anything special.  I just unplug it, remove the speakers, carry it carefully, and reassemble everything.  It sounds like something might have  jiggled loose or broken in the transport. If you're still under warranty, taking it to an authorized repair shop sounds like the best way to go. Removing the back to check inside on your own might void your warranty. If the warranty isn't an issue, it probably can't hurt to open it up and take a peek.  Good luck.

I have a Panasonic SC-PM19 CD

I have a Panasonic SC-PM19 CD mini-stereo system (similar to dekiser's) which I've barely used, or moved. But it's no longer under warranty. Today I pressed the remote to turn the system on. Then I pressed "1" on the remote pad thinking that was the way to access the CD in the first tray. There are two or three discs in the tray stack, and I probably pressed that pesky "1" before it cycled to its starting point. Big oops! Since that time, the stereo seems to be basically dead! When it's plugged in, there's not even a red light on for "AC in." I left it unplugged for several hours, then plugged it in again. The "AC in" light came on briefly, then the system turned itself off. Do you think this is the same problem -- the power amp module -- as described above? Or is it something I did with my finger twitching on the remote? Is there any way to reset the system?

Larry Dillon
No you have a short in the

No you have a short in the power amp board or a problem in the main power supply.  Depending on how much electronic experience should determine if you should mess with it.  It is like the Check engine light on the car, when it comes on, you open the hood , what do you see?  It is always best to take anything you know nothing on the theroy of how it works to a pro for repair.  Good luck and let us know if you have this puppy fixed.

Thanks so much for your

Thanks so much for your speedy reply. That's an amazing coincidence--I'm understanding you to say that if I hadn't pressed "1" on the remote keypad while the system was setting itself up, the short in the power amp board or glitch in the main power supply would have turned up anyway. Sheesh!

Larry Dillon
Yes it would but I forgot to

Yes it would but I forgot to tell you to unplug the unit for several hours.

I'm letting the system sit

I'm letting the system sit unplugged for the weekend to let both of us sort ourselves out. I was rushing around in a less than positive mood when all this happened. If and when a red light appears in the "AC in" power supply button when I do plug the unit in again, is there any particular thing I might do to possibly reset the system? Again, thanks so much for your help with this puppy.

Larry Dillon
unplug it again, thats the

unplug it again, thats the way to reset it.  If this does not work, there is a serious problem and you would have to take the unit in for repair or simply replace it.

I have SC-PM19 Panasonic

I have SC-PM19 Panasonic system and all over sudden its CD player stopped working. When it is full with 5 CD, when you try to play them, I get a message : No CD.

I suspect laser reader stopped working, but after I purchased a CD lens cleaner and tried to run it to clen, i got no results. Unplugging and plugging back did not help neither. Is taken to reapir shop is onlu other option left for me? Can anyone help with suggestions? Thank you.

RE: BeeQueen:  It is possible

RE: BeeQueen:  It is possible that the CD loading mechanism is out of time.  There was/is a modification to these particular mechanisms to repair a design defect resulting in this "out of sequence" problem.  If the unit is unable to complete the startup sequence, it will shut itself off.  IF the unit is sufficiently out of timing, the symptom will be as you describe.  This is not a repair that can be done without the modification documentation as it requires a complete dis-assemble/rebuild. I would recommend that you take this unit to an authorized Panasonic servicer.  Once the modification is completed, this problem should not recur.

Maxim:  The next step is to clean the lens with alcohol.  The CD "cleaners" don't generally work unless there is only a little dust on the lens.  Be very careful when opening this unit as there are cables with little play in them that can be damaged.  Once the CD mechanism is exposed, the top cover can be removed by depressing a few tabs and sliding the cover off.  DO NOT move anything else.  Just gently clean the lens and reassemble.  If a dust film is on the lens, this should fix the problem.  Otherwise, the optics are bad and should be replaced by an authroized servicer.

I have a SA-PM19 Panasonic

I have a SA-PM19 Panasonic 5CD disk changer and it keeps skipping. It hadn't done this before but now any CD I put in skips in random places. At first I thought it was just the CD, but when I put one in that played without problem in the car recently and it skipped. Has this happened to anyone else's or is it just mine? Please help me figure out what's wrong!

myfriend
I had a very similar problem.

I had a very similar problem. Had evidently pushed one of the program buttons while dusting. Check to make sure you don't have the set up menu set on "random" somewhere. Mine would play one song on a cd and then stop. It's been so long since I fixed the problem, I can't remember exactly how, but it's in one of your set up options would be my guess. The player is probably fine.

Actually when I say skipping

Actually when I say skipping I don't mean playing random songs. While playing a song it'll just skip a little, like miss a beat and then keep on playing.
But thanks for trying to help!

My SA-PM28 (similar to the PM19 I think) has recently started skipping a beat here and there. I've never used a cd lens cleaner disc - is that what is needed to sort out the problem? If so any recomendations?
