ps2 parental control problems

I recently bought a used ps2 for my son and it already had a parental password stored on it , which I have no idea what it is, I've gotten it to play rated r dvd's, but when I put in a dvd that is not rated my tv screen flashes on and off blue. Please Help.....

I'm not entirely convinced

I'm not entirely convinced this is a parental control problem (explore it first though). You can easily reset the parental control password. TechLore already has an article with instructions on how to do this. Read it here. Once unlocked, go in and disable the parental control feature, and try the DVD again.

If the parental control reset doesn't work, I'll need a little more info to help me narrow down the problem.

Which model PS2 is it? (There will be a model number listed on it)
How is it connected to your TV?
What kind of TV is it?
What DVD is causing this to happen?

The ps2 is a ( scph-50001 ),

The ps2 is a ( scph-50001 ), it's connected through my vcr, which I really don't think is the problem since I can play all of my other dvd's except this one, my tv doesn't have the hook up for the ps2, and the dvd is not rated, " Land of the Living Dead. " When I go in and try to change the password or security level the ps2 won't let me????

Kimberly, Did you follow the

Kimberly,

Did you follow the instructions on the page that I linked to above (click on the red "here" in my post above)? It will show you how to reset the parental control password, and disable the parental control entirely.

According to Sony, an unrated DVD should not trigger the parental control feature... but I've been lied to before. Disable the parental control feature.

Quick question, Have you tried the DVD in a different player?

The problem could very well be that the PS2 is connected to the TV through the VCR. The resulting flashing blue screen could be a copy guard feature on the disc (albeit an uncommon one). You should consider picking up the PS2 RF adapter, which will at least let you connect the PS2 to the TV without going through the VCR. You can pick up a used adapter at a GameStop or EB Games store pretty cheap.

Try those ideas and post back.
