Mitsubishi ws-65611 problems

I first noticed the problem a month ago when the tv's volume went up by itself and wouldn't respond to anything from the remote for my tv or cable box remote. When I pressed the down volume on the tv control panel, the volume would go right back up. I was able to reset the tv and the problem went away. Then a couple of weeks ago, the picture would start to flash from black screen to picture, with the message "Check connections or power. The connections for RGBHv or yPrPb may be invalid. The flashes happened at random times during the day and sometimes within seconds of eachother.

I was thinking that the problem was with our cable box so I checked the connections and power cycled the box and the problem went away. Now this brings us to yesterday. The screen starts to flash again so I figured it was the cable box again, however, this time I left the tv on while I shut off the cable box. The screen still flashed but from black to blue(default screen color when there is no picture). The flashes happened multiple times within seconds of each other.

The controls from the remote was also not working and I was only able to turn off the tv from the control panel. When I turned the tv back on the volume indicator came up on the screen and moved up on its own. Pressing any button on the control panel or the tv did nothing so I had to unplug it. I waited 10 minutes, plugged it back in, and turned on the tv from the control panel (remotes still didn't work). The volume indicator came up but instead it was at its lowest setting. The volume would slide up a few notches then go back down. Pressing the device button would result in the highlighting box to "twitch" over multiple devices. Pressing the menu button resulted in the volume going up to its highest setting and staying there, regardless of anything else pushed. I decided to leave my tv unplugged overnight to see if that would help.

This morning I plugged the tv back in and the remotes still didn't work so I thought the same problems would occur. There was no flashing, and the volume came up at its lowest setting. I turned on the cable box and a picture came up. I pressed the volume on the control panel and it worked normally. I then tried the remotes and they started to work! I started to jump up and down for joy, but it was shortlived since I decided to test it and turned off the tv. Sure enough, I wasn't able to turn on the tv from either remote. I unplugged my tv again for 10 minutes and plugged it back in. The remotes still failed. I figured that this isn't really a bad thing since I change channels with the cable box anyway.

I left the tv on for about 15 minutes without any flashing or errors I could see. I decided to try the tv remote and for some reason its working. I can even turn on the tv from the remotes. I've been reading through the forums about the blinking green lights of death and the DM caps fix. I did the error code check and it returned a 12 (normal operation). At first I thought it was the DM caps, then I thought it was the control panel. I have no idea why my tv is suddenly working again and afraid that this won't be the last time. Sorry if this post is too long, I wanted to give as much info as possible. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Brian

You could have a problem in

You could have a problem in the DM board assembly. First thing to do is open it and see if the DM power supply capacitors are swollen or bad. This could be a very costly repair unless you know how to solder and work on printed circuit boards. If you do not, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck

Sorry about that. My TV is actually a Mitsubishi WS-73615. I know one of the capacitors is bad because it burst, probably from a voltage surge. the email address is [email protected]. Thanks for the help.

Are you sure of the model number?  And how old is this TV set?

The model number is off the

The model number is off the rear of the tv set & off the Owner's Guide brochure (dated 2004). It is about 3 years old. It is a rear projection 73" 1080i set & its comparable 65" model is WS-65515 & WS-65615.

I do not have that model number of TV set but you can go to servicemanual.net and get one. Then you can help me out as I am helping you out by sending me a copy of the service manual. I will though however send the different capacitor replacement documents.

I have a similar problem with

I have a similar problem with my WS 65611.  4 years old, and this is first problem.  The TV shut off by itself and the green light blinked.  We were able to turn the TV back on and we didn't notice anything different until a few days later.  The convergence was way out of whack.  Tickers on the bottom of the screen rolled down off the left and right.  I tried the Advanced Adjustment for convergence, and the white lines were bowed at the bottom.  So we couldn't get the red or blue to match the white lines, but I'm not sure you would want to.  I hit the reset button, and now the TV will not power up at all.  Nothing, no blinking lights.  I've unplugged, etc., and nothing.  I pressed and held the Menu and Device buttons on the front panel.  Nothing.  No blinking lights, nothing.  Is this likely the DM board I've read so much about?  Or a fuse?  Can you take out the DM board without taking out the chasis?  Any advice would be helpful.  I'm pretty handy, and if I can pinpoint the problem, I will order whatever capacitors that I need and take the DM board somewhere for soldering.

Larry, I have the service manual in PDF format for the WS 65611 if you want it.  I need help fixing the TV.  Power shut off by itself, then convergence was out of whack.  I hit reset button and now TV will not come on at all.  I've read about the DM board problems.  Any advice?  I'm pretty handy, but i'm not sure i want to solder anything.

I have a Mitsubishi HDTV 1080

I have a Mitsubishi HDTV 1080 Model WS-65515 and have the dreaded flashing green light of death. I was hoping to follow the capacitor replacement advice to the DM module. After downloading the service manual, which quite clearly showed the location of the DM module...it is clear that our t.v. does not appear to have the DM module as illustrated from the manual on the  web.  We purchased the 4 capacitors as suggested but are unclear which ones to replace if any at all seeing as our t.v. appears not to have the DM module.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded the manual from http://www.eserviceinfo.com. It's a fantastic site but on this occasion the manual appears to be the wrong one and I cannot find the right one.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Thanks

Larry Dillon
Jim, your model number does

Jim, your model number does have a DM board but it is not the same one for the four capacitors. There are actually seven capacitors in your set that have to be replaced all at once. I have the right service manual as well as a repair documents with pictures to show you how to take it apart if you like. Leave an e-mail address and I will send it all out to you. Good Luck

I have a Mitsubishi HDTV 1080

I have a Mitsubishi HDTV 1080 Model WS-65611 and have the dreaded flashing green light. Could you send me info on how to repair DM Board [email protected] Thanks

osman
I own a ws-65611 HDTV.

I own a ws-65611 HDTV. Currently I am experiencing auto power off problem. After I apply power, the green light will come on and then turn off immediately. I reboot the TV with no sucess. TV would come on with flashing green light for a minute or so, then turn off. I am handy, has access to soldering iorns and some parts. I would appreciate any suggestion including repair manual sent to me at [email protected].

OK first thing we need to do

OK first thing we need to do is a diagnostics on the set and find out why it is shutting off. Press and hold down the input and the menu button on the tv set, the standby LED wil blink a two digit code like 5 times. Let me know what it does. Good Luck

osman
Larry, where is the standby

Larry, where is the standby LED on WS65611. Are there one or multiple LED. Do I have to open the back of the TV?

Larry Dillon
it is the light that flashes

it is the light that flashes when you reboot the set. There is only one, and nNo you do noy have to take off the back of the set.

osman
Larry, I pressed "Menu" and

Larry, I pressed "Menu" and "Device" button simulteneously which are located infront of the TV. It appear to go into a self test mode. The green light will go on and off (slowly) and then go on, off, on off in repid succession then the first on and off. Then the cycle repeats 5 times. Seems like the codes are in binary, 1 0 ( or 1 1 0 0) and 1 0 1 0 which are 2( or 12) and 10 in decimal. If I had not read it correctly, please let me know, I can try again. The failure mode of my TV is, when I press the power button, the green light will come on for half a second, then turn off.

I would appreciate any comment.

Larry Dillon
If the code is a 12, the set

If the code is a 12, the set does not detect a fault, I'm afraid you will need an experenced tech to trouble shoot this set.

osman
I am not sure if it is 12 or

I am not sure if it is 12 or 2. If the light blinks on and off slowly once, is this a 1 and a 0. After a slow on and off, it blinks on and off twice repidly. then it repeats the cycle begining with a slow on and off, followed by quick on and off twice.

Is there a serviced manual for ws-65611 that will tell me how to read the code correctly?

Larry Dillon
that is a 12 code, there is

that is a 12 code, there is no 2 code and like I aid before that the set is not detecting g a problem, if you can use a multimeter, Go in and find some small fuses that are marked right beside them on the board as F9A)4 and F9A05, if one or more of these are bad, you will need to replace the convergence IC's. If you have no experience with solid state repair play it safe and have an authorized repair person assist you in this repair.

osman
Larry, appreciate your help.

Larry, appreciate your help. I have a multimeter and I can replace IC's if I know which one to replace. Would you have access to board layouts and schematics for WS-65611. There are four or five boards layed horizontally next to each other. It would be helpful if I knew where those fuses F9A04 and F9A05 are appriximately located. You can send me any drawing at [email protected].
