After this TV warms up a 2" vertical green stripe gradually appears in the center of the screen. The picture is perfect until the stripe begins to appear. The green disappears over black or dark background or images - looks like a negative image over lighter background. the sides of the stripe are perfectly vertical.
It would really depend on the model number of the TV set my friend. Most LCD TV sets have the screen drivers on the main board now a days so most likely there is an intermittant thermal problem on the main printed circuit board. Depending on how old the set is and how big the set is will determine how much you are willing to spend on this TV set. In alot of recent cases, the sets were not worth the cost to replace the main board I'm afraid. But you should not fret just yet, as if the set is less then a year old, it should still be covered under a manufactirers warranty. If it is not, take the set or contact the manufacturer about getting or finding an authorized repair center for this make of TV set. Thank you for the response! It's an LN-R238W (23") just over a year old. I already ordered a service manual because I thought it sounded like a convergence issue. I doubt I'll be spending any more on it. Thanks again. jm
I am sorry to burst your bubble my friend, But LCD TV sets do not have convergence circuits.
I tested the intermittant thermal hypothesis with an ice pack. The stripe goes away and stays gone, even after removing the ice, until I turn the thing on again! Thanks again for all the advice, Mr. D! jm
