Cool Japanese Cell Phone Services

While doing research on this new phone, we came across a lot of cool an interesting services that the Japanese enjoy that we don't have.

Check this stuff out.

Omakase Lock - Lock your phone just by contacting DoCoMo. You can lock your Phonebook and other personal data as well as the "Osaifu-Keitai" IC card function on your phone if you misplace or otherwise loose it.

PushTalk - PushTalk enables up to 5* people* (including the caller ) to participate in a single call. Calls between PushTalk compatible handsets can be made straight away as no application is necessary.

Videophone - Convey Your Feelings Like You're There in Person Videophone conveys the nuance of what you want to say better than with words only. Sharing moments in real time as they happen is one of the many ways to use Videophone.

Chara-den - Chara-den is a service where the user shows an avatar character instead of his or her own face to the recipient of a Videophone call. That avatar can then be controlled by the user.

Chaku-moji? - Send a word to show how you feel or what you’re calling for before talking on the phone. The Chaku-moji message will be displayed on the called party’s incoming call screen. When the call is answered, the message will disappear. Useful and provides peace of mind for the recipient because they’ll know what the call is about before answering.

index_02.gif"Osaifu-Keitai" - This refers to mobile phones equipped with contactless IC card, as well as its useful function/services enabled by the IC card. With this function, mobile phones can be utilized as electronic money, credit card, electronic ticket, membership card, airline ticket, and more.

Mobile Suica - With Mobile Suica you can use your "Osaifu-Keitai" to pass through automatic ticket gates at train stations. Mobile Suica even works as e-money for purchases at stores.

i-channel - Get news as easily as you talk on the phone. This service lets you check the latest news and useful daily information, easily and conveniently. The latest news is shown and scrolls through on the standby screen.

Bar Code Reader - Capture URLs and Personal Data in an Instant. Users simply let the phone's camera capture and read the Bar code (QR Code) to obtain all sorts of information. This provides one-touch access to sites found with Bar codes printed in magazines, on posters, and other advertisements, without the hassle of entering URLs. Users can also display and register phone numbers and mail addresses from business cards.

Wow.  I really dig some of these.  The Push to talk thing seems like it'd be a real hit among teens/kids.  But the one I get really excited about is Omakase Lock feature.  How obvious and cool is it that I be able to remotely lock my cell phone if I misplace it!?
